#walletcard's most excellent weekend

#walletcard ventures out into the -30 C temperatures this (long) weekend.

Saturday was Upper Deck's National Hockey Card Day. We already had a full day planned so I could only stop in to Toy's R Us and pick up one sheet.

So we got a good assortment of heroes, rookies and pride of Canada cards. I'm going to have to track down the rest.

After getting the rest of our things done, it was time for a Valentine's Day meal. We stopped off at Jack Astors Bar and Grill.

Here's #walletcard Rick contemplating the Holy Smoke BBQ burger with Yukon Gold french fries. Those aren't the Macho Nachos starters in the back. (hehehe)

Monday here in Ontario we celebrate Family Day.  I don't have to work. (yay). The one event we're going to today is to meet 2012 Olympic bronze medallist  Mark Oldershaw.

Here we are waiting in line to get his autograph.

And now a close-up look at his Olympic bronze. Now that was nice. I picked it up and held it for a bit. Big and heavy. I would like to have one of those.

Now it's time for an afternoon nap.

#walletcard at Hockey Day in Brant County 2015

Legends Tap House and Grill  once again hosted Hockey Day in Brant County (2015) and we were there.

There was a hockey skills game where you could dsiplay your shooting prowess.

You could also win tickets to tonight's Leafs game against the Oilers.

But #walletcard Rick and I were there to get former NHL'er Curtis Joseph's autograph. Here's part of the line-up where he was signing.

Before the signing, myself and two friends were out front of the restaurant talking. Cujo got dropped off and came over for a little chat. He then went inside to get ready.

Here's what I got signed.

I also informed him of the fact that according to Zistle, he has 1472 different cards. He made me repeat the number . He said he didn't know that and was something he wanted to remember.  With these cards, I now need 1464 cards of his to get autographed. And that will happen when

More from REF4RETT game

REF4RETT Raises $25,000

Ian Fowler of the Paris Mounties alumni, Lory Morton and her daughters Elle Morton and Paige Morton, and former Maple Leaf captain Rick Vaive pose for a ceremonial puck drop at the Ref4Rett event last weekend in Paris.(Submitted Photo)

Full story here

Besides this great poster, I got a few of my items signed.

Vol 2 # 6 1994 Ottawa Senators "Bodycheck" magazine signed by Dave McLlwain

91/92 ProSet # 363 and 90/91 ProSet # 426 signed by Ric Nattress. He signed with his # 2 that he wore with the Leafs, not # 6 with the Flames.

91/92 OPC # 515 and 91/92 OPC insert # 23R signed by Dmitri Mironov.. He signed with his Leafs # 15 , not his Red Army # 2.

Poster signed by Bill Derlago. The guys had fun with this one. Noticing it was 1985, Tom Fergus asked Bill if that made him 100. Bill kidded Mike Krushelnyski that he may have 2 Cups but not the Molson Cup.

Joked about not being able to stand up.

Checked to see who the Ranger was (Kris King)

Said he scored from behind the goal line

Signed and was busy talking about the next picture.

Mark wanted to show everyone  that he could make the split save.  Fergus asked him how long it took him to get off his knees.

Lou let out a few choice words and then caught himself. The older couple behind me said it was a good thing there were mature ears listening.

Kevin was wondering where his head went to.

He put on his glasses to see who the Capitals player was (John Druce).

A few more signed wirephotos for my collection. One of the good things around here is the Leafs alumni play a lot. The downside is it's usually the same players playing so opportunities for new player autographs are few.

And for some guys, it's hard to find some wirephotos. I have probably 10,000 covering the 88/89, 89/90 and 90/91 seasons. Now if the player only played a few games, the odds aren't great he was captured on film. The Shannon might be the only one I have and was lucky to find the Maguire's. I can find multiples of the others though.

Well that was my Saturday night. Next Saturday, Curtis Joseph will be signing and I hope to get there.

#walletcard's busy weekend

After being cooped up in my wallet for the week, #walletcard kept busy this weekend. Saturday night we went to a hockey game and the Toronto Maple Leafs won a game.

The Leafs alumni that is.

It was a benefit game to raise awareness of RETT Syndrome. It was started by OHA referee Kevin Morton, who's daughter has this. You can read more at REF4RETT

#walletcard Rick was there to see his self in person. The game had a really great idae. They were selling these posters for $1.00 and you could walk through the line and get it signed by the alumni. As you may notice, the Rick Vaive slot is blank.  He did play in the game but due to timing and a previous commitment, he could not stay after the game. #walletcard Rick was unhappy but there will always be another time.

I did get more autographs which I will share another time. I also have some good stories to tell of the players when they signed my items.

Sunday was an outing for entertainment of another kind.

We had tickets to see the  granddaughters in their dance recital for the Burford Dancers Dance Studio. (same town that current NHL'er Adam Henrique grew up in)

They seem to enjoy it which is the main thing. And I know we enjoyed it too.
