Al Jensen
Selected by Detroit Red Wings round 2 #31 overall 1978 NHL Amateur Draft
The NHL's Central Scouring Bureau ranked Al the top goaltender available for the 1978 draft.
Netminder Al Jensen was a solid NHL performer throughout the 1980s. He was an experienced amateur and international player who also excelled during the short time he spent in the minor leagues.
Success followed Al Jensen around during his hockey career. The Hamilton native won the Memorial Cup with his hometown Hamilton Fincups, then won the International Hockey League’s Turner Cup and the American Hockey League’s Calder Cup before he broke into the NHL with Detroit in 1980-81. The following season, Jensen joined the Washington Capitals and led them to their first Stanley Cup Playoffs berth in 1982-83
On December 14, 1982, Al was the goaltender who allowed Marcel Dionne's 500th career National Hockey League goal.
Jensen has been NHL Central Scouting’s goaltender scout for the past 10 years, and his evaluations have proven solid.
