Aug 20-- 1996 Upper Deck SP Hockey Pack Rip

August is turning out to be a bad month for me trying to post autographed items for a player celebrating a birthday on each day.  Since yesterday's pack rip was well received, today I 'll rip hmmm, 95/96 Upper Deck SP Hockey. I have random unopened packs and boxes from various years.

1996 Upper Deck SP Hockey

8 Super premium hockey cards per pack. These were thick cards and featured three photos. On the front, a full shot over a foil background and a smaller head shot. The back had another photo, a little write up and career year and 94/95 season stats.

This was in the era where they stated the odds of pulling inserts.

This pack contains a random assortment of 1996 Upper Deck SP Hockey cards numbered 1-188. Randomly inserted in these specially marked packs are Upper Deck Stars/Etoiles (silver) (1:3), Upper Deck Stars/Etoiles (gold) (1:61), Holoview (1:5), Special F/X Holoview (1:75), Wayne Gretzky's Record Collection (1:45) and Great Connection (1:381) insert cards. Stated odds reflect an average of the entire production run; this ratio is not guaranteed to exist within an individual box or case.

Card # 23 Chris Chelios (front and back)

On August 31, 2010, Chelios officially retired

Card #39 Todd Harvey

After the amazing cup run with the Edmonton Oilers in the 2006 Playoffs, Harvey was bought out for the rest of his contract and was unable to find a new team in the off-season.

Card #96 Niklas Sundstrom

After 11 NHL seasons (at the start of the 2006–07 season) , he returned to play in  Sweden.

Card #123 Dale Hawerchuk

Hawerchuk announced his retirement from the game following the 1996-97 season at age 34.

Card # 135 Roman Hamrlik

Hamrlik signed a two-year contract worth $7 million with the Washington Capials on July 1, 2011.

Card # 166 Oleg Tverdosky

Tverdovsky played the 2007–08 season in Russia where he still plays today.

Card #E7 Jeremy Roenick

I'm assuming this is the silver version (1:3) as the background foil is silver.
On August 6, 2009, Roenick announced his retirement from the National Hockey League

Card # FX 9 Doug Weight

Weight announced his retirement following the  2010/2011 season on May 26, 2011.

Again, I'm assuming this is the FX Holoview (1:75) . Its kind of creepy looking because if you turn the card, the face kind of shifts but the background doesn't move at all.

Don't remember the price but was probably around $4.00 a pack.

Fun break and two hits. Have to wait and see what I will do the next time.

Enjoy.
